Scott C Waring, editor of the UFO Sightings Daily website, says he found the “weird alien object” which appears to be in the shape of a cross on the surface of the Moon in age-old Soviet images of the rock he was directed to by the NASA website.
Waring said he discovered the bizarre object, and a host of other evidence of lunar alien occupation in old Soviet Russia moon photographs.
The alien hunter claims to have scoured through Russian photos of the Moon from the 1950s through to the early 1970s that he found online.
Other spots include something which resembles an Empire tie fighter attack ship from the original Star Wars trilogy.
He also highlighted what he called a screw-like object, which looks like a longer version of a “wheel” or “tie fighter” with a pole running through it.
The pictures have been met with mixed reactions online.
Replying to the picture, one said: “Religious artefacts on the moon, we are all doomed I tell ya good post mate I will check it out.”
While another said: “There’s a starman waiting in the sky he’d like to come and meet us but he thinks he would be killed.”
But one quipped: “Am I blind or something? I don’t see anything strange at all.”
Waring says that the anomalies appear to be proof that the moon was at one time occupied before the US and Soviet Lunar missions began.
He wrote on his website: “I thought I have seen it all, but when I got to the bottom of this NASA site, it said Soviet Moon Images.
“So I clicked and it took me to a site called mental landscape. A bit odd, but hey, NASA sent me there so it must be legit.
“The photos of the old Luna Soviet missions are interesting. In one photo I found this screw-like container on the surface of the moon and an object in the shape of two attached wheels. Both are in the same photo, so they are not the same objects, but two different objects.”
“I thought I have seen it all”
Waring said he had seen a similar corkscrew object in NASA pictures of Mars.
In 2010 pictures of the Moon emerged that showed what many believed was a UFO in the shape of a Swastika parked in a crater, but there were also suggestions at the time it was a hoax.
The Soviet Lunar Programme from 1959 to 1976 involved the sending of unmanned aircraft to the Moon for orbiting and landings to gather pictures and samples of the surface.
It was supposed to be ahead of manned Russian missions to Mars.
