Rabbi Pinchas Winston – a prolific doomsayer who has penned 50 books – warned the holy land is facing a devastating war that may be the “final battle”.
He warned the Israel Defence Force must prepare for a horrific war that could spark at “any time”.
It comes amid renewed clashes between Israelis and Palestinians on the Gaza Strip – with both sides exchanging fire.
And Israel continues to be at loggerheads with Iran over the Islamic Republic’s ongoing presence in Syria.
The scholar warned the next major conflict in the region may be the war leading into the end times – known as the War of Gog and Magog.
“It could be more horrifying than anything we could ever imagine”
Rabbi Winston said even small skirmishes – mentioning ongoing clashes in Gaza – could spark the Biblical war which would fulfil the the end of days prophecy and spark the arrival of the Jewish Messiah.
The war may last just 12 minutes and encompass the whole world, he said, referencing a prediction by a 18th century Rabbi.
He added: “There are many aspects described in prophecy that skeptics say are impossible. It is all part of the bigger plan.
“We can sweeten the judgment to the point where we barely notice the war.
“Or it could be more horrifying than anything we could ever imagine.”
2018 has been the year of many doomsayers pointing to elements of Biblical prophecy seeming to come true.
Israel has seemingly seen the birth of a red heifer for the first time in 2,000 years which is seen by some as the sign of the coming of the Messiah.
Fish have also been swimming in the dead sea, another aspect described in prophecy.
And most recently a snake crawled from the Western Wall – another sign of the arrival of the Jewish Messiah.
“Any student of history knows that hindsight is 20-20 but in the moment, you never know what can set off a war,” Rabbi Winston told Breaking Israel News.
“The First World War was set off by the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand.
“The 2014 War in Gaza was set off by the murder of three young boys and the same is true for the War of Gog and Magog but even more so.”
“[God] is pushing events forward. So we cannot prepare for it.”
The War of Gog and Magog features in the Hebrew Bible and features Israel’s enemies being defeated by the Messiah who heralds the dawn of the Messianic Age.
Gog and Magog refer to individuals, lands, or peoples – and have in history been used by some doomsayers to refer to the Soviet Union during the Cold War and the conquering French emperor Napoleon.
Christianity also has a prophecy of Gog and Magog, painting them as allies of Satan against God.
The Middle East remains on a knife-edge amid ongoing tensions, with the US due to issue a further crackdown on Iran this week.
