FTSE CLOSE: Pound edges lower as markets await clues on Cabinet backing for Brexit deal; Inflation stays at 2.4%; Flybe in sale talks

The FTSE 100 closed down 19.97 points at 7033.79 and the pound was at $1.30 against the dollar.

The pound edged lower after a climb yesterday as markets await clues on whether Theresa May can secure Cabinet backing for a proposed Brexit deal with the EU.

Budget airline Flybe is in talks about a possible sale of the company weeks after warning over profits.

Elsewhere, SSE has said there is now ‘some uncertainty’ over whether its planned deal to merge its energy services arm with rival Npower can be completed.
