‘Now, it’s 100% him’: Miralem Pjanic admits Cristiano Ronaldo has gone to the top of free-kick taking pecking order since sealing move to Juventus
- Cristiano Ronaldo has been chosen as the first-choice free-kick taker at Juventus
- Miralem Pjanic has stepped down from dead-ball duties to make way for Ronaldo
- The Bosnian and Paulo Dybala regularly took free kicks for the club last season
- Ronaldo is yet to score his first goal at Juventus after 14 shots in two games
The Bosnian midfielder has always been the club’s go-to player for set pieces along with forward Paulo Dybala with the duo having a lot of success from dead-ball situations.
However, Pjanic has admitted that Ronaldo is now the first choice for Massimiliano Allegri since arriving in Turin last month.

‘Cristiano is here now, someone who in the past few years has shown he is best in the world,’ Pjanic told Juventus TV.
‘At first when we trained on free kicks it would either be me or Dybala to take it. Now, it’s 100 per cent him. He is a tremendous free-kick taker.’
Despite scoring some iconic goals from free kicks during his career, Ronaldo has often been critiscised for his low conversion rate during his time at Real Madrid.
During his time at the Bernabeu, Ronaldo was prolific in front of goal but managed to score just 11 times from free kicks since 2012.

The Portuguese marksman had 170 attempts meaning his conversion rate was 6 per cent in the past six years.
Pjanic and Dybala have been more successful from the set pieces with Pjanic scoring 14 in 105 tries, while the Argentine has nine goals from 49 free kicks.
Ronaldo is also yet to find the back of the net for Juve too having played twice and taken 14 shots at goal but Pjanic is confident Ronaldo will get off the mark very soon.
‘Cristiano’s added something to Juve,’ added Pjanic. ‘I must admit that he’s very good at shooting. He’ll give us so much and we’re very happy to have him with us.
‘Having him with us is very important and we can only benefit from what he’ll give us. I hope he feels comfortable with us.’
