Red Dead Redemption 2 has sold millions of copies and is currently one of the best selling games of 2018.

This has been done in just a few short weeks, placing it in the same category as Call of Duty Black Ops 4 and FIFA 19.

The National Purchase Diary (NPD) for the United States just confirmed that Call of Duty Black Ops 4 sold the most copies during October.

The good news for Rockstar Games is that Red Dead 2 improved on its predecessor by selling three times the number of copies in the US in its launch month as the original RDR.

And that also means there could be millions of players waiting to jump into the beta when it does start.

But there is still one very big important piece of Red Dead 2 information that has yet to be shared by Rockstar Games.

Fans are still waiting for further news on the release date of the Red Dead Online beta for PS4 and Xbox One.

From what has been shared so far, a launch is expected for the end of November. This is a rough time frame mentioned by parent company Take-Two Interactive during a recent earnings call.

The good news is that Rockstar Games has not said anything that would suggest a delay is being planned.

But the radio silence from the big studio is making some RDR2 fans worry that we could see the release of beta pushed back until a later date.

“Watch a “delay” get announced on November 30th,” one fan commented on Reddit.

“I’m going to be disappointed if this is the case because they know if they’re going to delay it for sure right now, so why not just come out and say it if they are?” another added.

Other fans have defended the idea of the Red Dead Online beta being delayed, suggesting it’s important it runs in a playable state, even if it is still in the testing phase.

“It’s the fastest selling game of the year, one of the fastest selling games of all time. There will be hundreds of thousands if not millions of casual players who will give RDO a whirl when the beta launches.

“If it is in serious disrepair they won’t care that it’s a beta or not (if they even know it’s a beta). They will dislike it and write it off.

“Like it or not a beta is considered a launch. If it’s bad, people will dislike it and many will write it off entirely. Rockstar has one shot to make it count.

“Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying that RDO will fail if the beta is bad or anything, but for many people, a first impression is incredibly important and if it doesn’t stick, they won’t stick around either. I think Rockstar knows this so they’re not gonna risk a too shabby beta.”

There are a few theories that can be made for why Rockstar Games has not yet made an announcement.

One of these is connected to Thanksgiving in the United States, as well as the Black Friday sales currently going on.

Many companies shy away from sharing big news during any holiday, as it can garner a lot less attention than on a normal day.

And with Black Friday currently dominating the headlines, fans may have to wait until after Cyber Monday before an announcement is shared.

There’s also the chance that Rockstar Games will choose to drop a trailer and an announcement date just days before the Red Dead Online beta begins.

The studio is known for making low-key announcements via their social media platforms and could guarantee they would have plenty of participants for testing, whatever time they announced it.

Rockstar Games have had to announce several delays to the release date of Red Dead Redemption 2 during its development.

Originally announced for the second-half of 2017, Rockstar was forced to push back launch day twice.

Fans were first told Spring 2018, before being told that October 2018 would be the final release date change.

But fans can certainly hold out hope that while they haven’t heard much from Rockstar Games yet, there is still plenty of time left in November for the Red Dead Online beta to go live.

NPD Group analyst Mat Piscatella has also revealed some other interesting facts about the Red Dead Redemption 2 launch.

“With just nine days of reported sales, Red Dead Redemption 2 is the second best-selling game of October 2018 and is now also the second best-selling game year to date,” Piscatella reveals.

“Red Dead Redemption 2 launch month sales more than tripled those of the previous title in the series, Red Dead Redemption, which launched May 2010…

“Activision Blizzard was the highest revenue generating publisher for the month of October, while Take-Two Interactive has achieved the highest total revenue year to date.”
