Alexis Sanchez wage problem

Alexis Sanchez is causing problems at Manchester United because of his exorbitant wages.

Sanchez was signed on what was effectively a free transfer, meaning United could pay him a bigger wage than if they’d had to pay a transfer fee.

But his terms are thought to reach around £500,000 a week with various add ons – making him the highest paid player at the club and in England.

And, with United looking to tie down a number of other players in the coming months, those figures are coming back to bite them.

There has been little progress in deals for both David de Gea and Anthony Martial, both technically out of contract this summer.

United do have clauses which will allow them to trigger one-year extensions, but the preference remains to tie them down to longer-term deal with fresh terms.

And while it is uncertain if both players will agree new deals or not, it would surely be a lot easier if Sanchez wasn’t earning so much.

Bailly to AC Milan?

Manchester United ace Eric Bailly could reportedly be offered a way out of Old Trafford by AC Milan.

The Ivory Coast international has fallen down the pecking order having initially impressed under Jose Mourinho.

And he has not played since being hauled off just 19 minutes into last month’s 3-2 win over Newcastle.

ESPN claim Milan have now put out feelers to assess whether Bailly could be on the move in January.

Leon Bailey snub

Bayer Leverkusen talent Leon Bailey has revealed that he’s rejected interest from Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United.

The 21-year-old has been a regular in the Bayer Leverkusen side since joining from Genk in 2017 – scoring 13 goals and provided seven assists in 58 appearances.

And his exploits have attracted attention from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

“Chelsea have been interested in me since I was maybe 14 or 15, but as a young player you want to start on a normal level and not just go there because of the name of the club,” Bailey told FourFourTwo magazine.

“Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool – a lot of clubs were interested. But the most important thing as a pro is taking things a step at a time and not rushing to the top too quickly. Because once you get there, where do you go next?”

“My focus isn’t really on moving anywhere yet. I’m just about what’s happening right now rather than what could happen in the future. I’m still learning.”

Griezmann: Happy at Atletico

Antoine Griezmann says he’s happy at Atletico Madrid.

The French World Cup winner was heavily linked with a move to Barcelona during the summer transfer window, but opted to sign a contract extension until 2023 instead.

Now, with rumours of PSG sniffing around – Griezmann has moved quickly to distance himself from the Ligue 1 champions.

“I feel very good at Atletico. We have a great project and I totally identify with this club,” Griezmann said. “I want to help the club grow as the club does for me. And together, we want to write the story.”

Wanted: Monchi

Manchester United are still interested in bringing Roma transfer guru Monchi to Old Trafford.

Monchi, 49, arrived at Roma from Sevilla last summer with a great reputation having discovered the likes of Sergio Ramos, Dani Alves and Ivan Rakitic.

But he’s already come under intense scrutiny having allowing Alisson, Radja Nainggolan and Kevin Strootman to leave.

But Italian website Calciomercato claim the Red Devils, Barcelona, PSG and Atletico Madrid would like him to mastermind their summer transfer activity.

Milan Skriniar valuation

Inter Milan want an astronomical fee for star Milan Skriniar.

That’s according to Italian newspaper Tuttosport, who claim Inter have slapped a £70million valuation on their sought-after defender.

Skriniar joined Inter Milan in 2017 and was an ever-present as they finished fourth in Serie A and qualified for the Champions League.

And his performances are understood to have caught the eye of Manchester United and Barcelona.

It is, however, unclear whether either European heavyweight would be prepared to meet Inter’s asking-price.

Chelsea swap deal

Barcelona are still interested in signing Chelsea star Willian.

That’s according to Spanish outlet La Sexta, who claim Barcelona are prepared to use Malcom as part of an audacious swap deal for the Brazilian playmaker.

The Catalan giants were heavily linked with Willian during the summer transfer window, but Chelsea rejected three separate offers – the last a sizeable £55million bid.

But Barcelona aren’t giving up.

Spain TV station La Sexta say Barcelona are ready to cut their losses on summer signing Malcom, who has played 105 minutes of competitive action since completing a £36.5million deal from Bordeaux.

Because the report says that Malcom would only be a part of the deal – it’s likely that Barcelona will have to pay an additional fee for Willian.

Neymar wants Barcelona return

Neymar wants to quit PSG for Barcelona in what would represent a hammer blow for Real Madrid, according to Martin Montoya.

Neymar turned his back on Barcelona for PSG just over a year ago, controversially quitting the Nou Camp in a huge £200million transfer deal.

Ever since that move, however, reports have claimed the 26-year-old regrets his decision to leave for the Parc des Princes.

Real Madrid were heavily linked with a move for Neymar following their bold decision to cut Cristiano Ronaldo loose. The Portugal international joined Juventus in a £105million deal.

Yet Montoya, who played alongside Neymar at Barcelona, has claimed he would prefer to move to the Nou Camp.

“I don’t know, I think it is difficult to get done,” Montoya told Goal. “Paris is also a great team and I don’t think they will let him to leave easily.

“Paris paid a big amount of money for him and I don’t think Barcelona would pay the same price for him. I think Neymar wants to go back because he was really comfortable and adapted the three years he was at the club.

“He had a great connection with Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi, but I think it is very difficult for him to come back to Barca.”

Wanted: Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Everton are looking to sign Crystal Palace right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, who say Everton are looking for a long-term successor to Seamus Coleman.

It’s claimed Marco Silva’s side would be prepared to offer Ademola Lookman as part of the deal for the 20-year-old.

Wan-Bissaka is contracted at Selhurst Park until June 2020.

Mehdi Benatia exit?

Juventus defender Mehdi Benatia says he will review his options in January if he doesn’t see more first-team action under Massimiliano Allegri.

Benatia, who was linked with Arsenal and Marseille last summer, has featured in just four Serie A fixtures this season.

“I’m struggling playing a game every now and then,” Benatia told La Stampa. “Last year I did well because I had more consistency, unfortunately I don’t have it this year. It’s part of my job, and I work to always be ready, but it’s not a pleasant situation.

“It’s normal that I’m not enjoying it, I’m 31 and I want to play as much as possible. January? Let’s see what happens, how I’m used, if Juve still need me, if Allegri wants me…

“I’m available to the team, as long as I’m here I’ll give my all. If I’m needed in the Champions League I’ll be ready.”

Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo claim Benatia is on Barcelona’s 15-man shortlist of potential January arrivals.

Wanted: Joao Felix

Chelsea could miss out on highly-rated Benfica teenager Joao Felix, reports claim.

Felix, 18, was promoted to Benfica’s first-team this summer and quickly made his presence known when scoring an 86th-minute equaliser against Sporting Lisbon.

But his exploits have earned him interest from Premier League Chelsea who, according to The Sun, were hopeful of securing his signature in January.

The creative midfielder currently has a £45million buy-out clause in his contract, but that will more than double £105m with Felix expected to sign a new contract this week.

Leroy Sane responds to Man Utd rumours

Leroy Sane has warned Manchester United they are in for a torrid time against a rampant City in the derby next week – and told them they have NO chance of signing him.

Sane has had a slow burner of a season to date after battling his way back into Guardiola’s good books after being dropped at the start of September.

But after recent displays which suggest he is coming to the boil nicely he put paid to speculation linking him with a move away from the Etihad.

While Juventus and Bayern Munich were linked another suggestion was that he might contemplate a move across town to Old Trafford.

But asked about a possible switch from blue to red Sane insisted that will never happen.

“That won’t happen! That won’t happen at all. I am really happy here and I’m on the right side!” he said.

Drinkwater and Moses

Maurizio Sarri admits Victor Moses and Danny Drinkwater are surplus to requirements at Chelsea as neither fits his formation.

The Chelsea manager said: “The situation is that Drinkwater, for me, is suitable for a midfield with two midfielders.

“I told him two months ago what I think.

“Moses is more suitable to play like a wing-back, rather than like a winger or a full-back.”

As for their chances of breaking into the first team, they seem bleak…

Sarri added: “I don’t know. They have to improve but their characteristics are a bit different.”
